Hello and WElcome! 👋🏻

READY FOR AN EASY WIN?

I’m available to speak to your ERG or women’s group!

  • I’m Gretchen, a life and career coach who worked for over 20 yrs as a tech exec where I spent my entire career stressed, anxious and exhausted >>>> more on that here

  • In addition to having run Girl Geek X, a community of 20K women in tech, for 3 years, I’ve also spoken at Women in Revenue, Moms in Tech and dozens of ERGs, large and small.

  • My coaching style combines thought work and intersectional feminism to help women feel less stressed and more productive by creating space for themselves in their own lives

HERE ARE SOME PREVIOUS TALK TOPICS…

I can deliver one of these talk topics or we can explore something tailored specifically to your organization

  • High achieving women all have one thing in common - an inner voice that is constantly evaluating their efforts. It painstakingly assesses our decisions, holds our work to the highest standards, and drives us to perform at our peak levels.

This voice can also lead to paralyzing indecision, crippling self-doubt, and lead to burnout from living in a hypervigilant state of anxiety, worry, fear and shame.

Some of us think that if we quiet that voice, we’ll no longer bring our best to every challenge.

Others have all the awards and accolades and wonder why they still don’t feel satisfied.

In this workshop we will find the line between high standards and counterproductive self-criticism with the goal of not only enjoying the satisfaction of a job well done but also all the moments in between while we’re creating it. And through this we’ll discover how extending grace to ourselves gives us the ability to extend it to others as well.

  • “Burnout is all in your head.” For people socialized as women, at first glance, that can sound a little triggering. A bit invalidating. A bit like a pat on the head and a diagnosis of hysteria. That’s valid.

At the same time, it’s true. Burnout comes from our thoughts. It’s not just the massive workload, impossible expectations and toxic bosses, it’s our *thoughts about* those things. Imagine how you’d feel if you thought “My workload is challenging but doable. My team holds itself to very high standards, but nothing I can’t manage. My boss is a human who sometimes expresses themself in ways I don’t appreciate, but I don’t let it get to me.” It’s a whole different vibe.

Now this is the part where you try to convince us that it would be fine to think that if it were true, but that in your case it really is your job (or other life circumstance) that’s creating the burnout. And this is where you’ll learn tips to get curious about what you’re telling yourself and the experience those thoughts are creating in your life.

In this workshop you’ll learn how to set mental boundaries, stop the mental spin cycle that is playing on a loop in your mind and evict the free-loading thoughts living rent-free in your head so you have time and space for your needs.

  • Finding your voice and speaking up isn’t just a matter of deciding what you want and from whom, it’s also about believing you have the authority to do so.

“The nail that sticks out gets hammered down” says a Japanese proverb. In America, “the squeaky wheel gets the grease.” And while speaking up is the advice for getting ahead in dominant Western culture, for many it can be dicey territory.

Women and people with marginalized identities not only have to traverse nagging self doubt and ever-shifting office politics, but also second-guessing how their words will hit with those in power.

Socialization and that pesky inner critic team up to keep us undecided, often to the point of paralysis -- abdicating decisions to the loudest voice in the room.

Join us as we expose the deeply rooted reasons we hesitate to speak up or take control, along with a decision-making toolkit that will help you trust and develop confidence in your own ability and authority!

  • Scheduling your recharge time as a priority isn’t just a luxury reserved for the non-partnered, child- and mortgage-free jet set. We all know for long-term productivity, it’s important to take care of ourselves, but we never get around to it. And we tell ourselves it's because we’re too busy while simultaneously beating ourselves up for scrolling social media and procrastinating.

So much of the time we are on autopilot, working our way through the week’s tasks and obligations, cat herding the humans in our lives, and blocking and tackling the seemingly endless tasks that inevitably pop up and throw us off track.

But what if we approached it all with a conscious and deliberate attention that allowed us to accomplish what was important AND still have time for ourselves to rest, recharge and restore? Or even more revolutionary, not get it all done and still feel great!

Learn tips to get more done in less time (no Hogwart’s required) so that your needs aren’t always last on the list, consistently carve out time for yourself without feeling guilty and stop letting last-minute obligations blow up your plans.

What others have to say…

Gretchen understands the value she can bring to the challenges you’re experiencing. She pushed me to make measurable progress. I was in my own way and she taught me how to take a new approach to change the outcome.”

— Leah BK.

“My one-on-one coaching helped me gain insight into what I had been telling myself about my goals that kept me stuck. The work on over-analyzing and second guessing really resonated with me. The approach and tools she introduced enabled me to move forward. Invaluable experience!”

— Heidi H.

I've noticed such a positive change in all areas of my life - situations that previously would have overwhelmed me are totally manageable now. I'm less anxious (fewer Sunday Scaries), more clear-headed, and able to be more productive both inside and outside of work. I'm so glad I took the leap and worked with Gretchen!”

— Leah Km.

“I needed the mindset work Gretchen specializes in to help me understand what it is I really, truly wanted, and how to set up my life to accomplish it. It was about digging deep, understanding my true self and beliefs, and then working through that to both set goals that truly fit with what I wanted and to be able to recognize the mental blockers that were holding me back, along with the tools to overcome those blockers.”

— robin D.

“Gretchen is serious badassery no matter what realm we are discussing. She brings her full self to the table - from hustling startup co-founder/COO/creative maven and to her very real human experiences as a woman who rose out of a trailer park. Her honesty, humor, and brilliance shine through in her coaching that we are all blessed to have. She will challenge and encourage you while you’ll feel as though you’re hanging out with your best girlfriends!

— tina s.

The way that Gretchen deftly weaves in her feminist studies into her mindset work is both unique and invaluable. She helped me uncover a lot of patriarchal ideas I would have sworn I didn’t have so that I could look at them in the light of day. It was this awareness that allowed me to start making changes that have massively lowered my anxiety and helped me be more present in my daily life.”
